Express Master rolled back the years to land the final of the £500 Carlberg 480 at Nottingham on Monday night.

Patricia Cowdrill’s veteran, who will be five years old in July, blasted clear from the traps and skipped clear to eventually hold Swift Carter by three quarters of a length in 28.81sec.

 

There was another £500 to the winner final on the same card, the Tetleys Bitter Sprint Final over 305 metres, which went the way of 8-1 outsider Droopys Pierre.

Sandra Ralph’s runner was soon clear and left trouble in his wake to come home two lengths clear of Roseville Billy in 17.95sec.

Queen Mother Memorial Cup winner Clever Jamie was a convincing winner over 680 metres when beating track specialist Oneco Melissa by almost six lengths in 41.62sec.

 

Steve Race’s La Maqina went fastest in the heats of the Stadium Bookmakers Standard Trophy over 500 metres.  He led at halfway to hold Fred The Shred by three quarters of a length in 29.78sec.

 

The other eliminator went to Carol Weatherall’s Solvitas Rocket, who led early to score a length and three quarter victory over Rafas Wee Jet in 30.21sec.

 

One of the performances of the night came in the heats of the Betfred Maiden Trophy in which Hiya Butt made a stunning debut.

Hayley Keightley’s runner led from trap to line to score a six length victory over Santro Rossi in 17.50sec.

 

The other heats went to Craig Dawson’s Dragon In the Sky  (18.11sec) and David Pruhs’ Dark Entries in 18.00sec.
