The bookies took a caning at Nottingham last night with eight of the ten open races being won by favourites writes Jason Craddock.

All three winners of the Betfred Standard over 500 metres went to market leaders and little separated them on the clock.

Toms Knowledge landed his first race for new trainer Paul White pulling clear off the second turn in heat three to beat Glendon Hondo by three lengths in 29.74sec.

Bromwich Tom came back to form after a lay-off to land the opening qualifier. Lynn Cook’s runner led from start to finish to hold the late surge of El Flutter by just over a length in 29.75sec.

Alec Stone’s Droopys Fellaini also came back from a break in heat three to make all and account for Ballyregan Billy by two lengths in 29.77sec.

Their performances were put in the shade by Stone’s Alma Valentine in the Maiden when she was soon clear to beat Afan Mist by five and a half lengths in 29.57sec.

Litter brother Alma Prince made it a family double over 680 metres when catching long-time leader Midway Nick close home to score by three quarters of a length in 41.55sec.

Another big performance came from Dave Firmager’s Romeo Big Time, who blasted clear in the 480 metre Puppy contest to come home alone in 28.60sec.

National Sprint winner Geelo Vegas made all in the Stadium Bookmakers Sprint over 305 metres to beat Charlie Lister’s Coolavanny Grace by two lengths in 17.69sec.

Lister’s Sidarian Bullet went quicker in the second division when scoring in 17.60sec.
