Yarmouth are planning a special ‘70th Anniversary’ meeting on Monday December 7.
The track actually opened on the day that Germany invaded the Netherlands in May 1940 but history is being re-written for a 1946 commemoration.
Promoter Simon Franklin said: “There were only a handful of meetings before the place was closed down and we have always celebrated December 1946 as the official opening.
“We are still deciding what to do on the night. We may offer everyone’s first pint at 1940 prices (hopefully without ration coupons –Ed) and possibly a graded race worth £1,940 to the winner.”
Like many tracks, Yarmouth will be attempting to take full advantage of the Christmas party season during December, but are better placed to cope than most.
Franklin said: “We will be racing on three Fridays in addition to the regular meetings but we have the dogs to cope.
“The kennel strength has been boosted by the return of Jim Daly who has around 30 on the strength and lots of pups coming through.”
The seaside venue are hoping for a lucrative BAGS fixture list in 2016, and produced a race last Wednesday that would have had the paymaster elves salivating.
Although the first and second were returned at joint favourites, they shared the 4-1 SP with the fourth, fifth and sixth. Third placed ‘rag’ Perfect Hondo was returned at 9-2.
