Puppy Derby slot unchanged

Despite the objections of a number of trainers, Monmore’s forthcoming PGR Puppy Derby will be staged as Saturday lunchtime fixtures.

Entain’s Head of Racing Paul Illingworth said: “The plan was always to go with both the Winter Derby and the Puppy Derby and review it after that. There has been some feedback and I would say it was split.

“Patrick Janssens pulled me to one side and said it was difficult to cover two different meetings which I can see. But trainers often have to cover two meetings on a Saturday.

“We will also look at how the meeting impacted the stadium in terms of restaurants and so forth. Certainly, despite the reservations of some of the trainers it didn’t affect the volume of entries which was very healthy.”

The Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby gets underway on Saturday March 16th and concludes with a £20K to winner final a fortnight later

A busy weekend for Tom Heilbron who sends Gold Cup third Bogger Rambo and Northern Puppy Derby finalist Omuircheartaigh out at Doncaster on Saturday night with Greyhound of the Year contender Links Maverick due to contest the heats of a dual distance event at Sheffield on Sunday.
