Yarmouth Sunday best

Yarmouth have made a flying start to their new racing schedule which features regular Sunday afternoon meetings though they are keeping their Saturday night options open for the future.

Promoter Simon Franklin said: “We’ve had a full restaurant, 240 covers, for all the Sundays so far. We are putting on a real enticing deal of £15 for a Sunday meal on a two-for-one deal. The brewery are also sponsoring each customer with a free drink. Let’s face it you are not going to get any better than that.

“So I can confirm that the meal deal will continue throughout February and we will look at it again.

“I have been trying to justify putting on a Saturday night too, but we are struggling to make the figures add up. We have somewhere around 280-300 dogs on the strength, but in terms of the prize money and commitment to trainers, you are running the stadium for nothing. Bear in mind the extra staff levels that you will need.

“I am not ruling it out completely, and we may be able to justify it with the summer crowds, but for the time we will continue to operate on the three meeting schedule and monitor the situation.

“If there are any trainers out there who fancy joining us, I will always be glad to hear from them.”
