Sean Davy’s Clever Jamie (Ace Hi Rumble-Athboy Fantasy, Nov 13) won the final of the Nottingham in the style of a walk-over with a full second advantage – twelve and a half lengths – to spare over closest rival Boherna Petal.

After a moderate break – his 15.34 sectional was two lengths down on his heat run – the 1-2f stormed to the front and disappeared over the proverbial hillside. A 41.82 winner over 750 at Shelbourne, the black had recorded a fastest of year to date for the 680 metres last week, but could manage no better than a 42.00 on less favourable going. It was still a very decent run though, given the experienced Malls Pet completed an open race hat-trick in 42.20 later on the same card.

The night’s other final went to Ted Soppitt’s Calzaghe Balboa (Godsend-Lughill Poppy, Apr 14). In a race that reflected the inexperience of several of the runners, the white jacketed runner showed good stamina, and honesty, to lead on the run-in for a 29.24 victory over the orange jacketed Pointless Pearl.
