The weather has been kind to the Irish tracks in the last week and that has been reflected in fast times at various tracks.

But not of that should take anything away from the 41.15 of Garfiney Blaze in the second round of the 750 yard Corn Cuchulainn at Shelbourne. Only Magical Poppy (41.02/41.08) went quicker last year.

There were FOY recordings for both 525 and 550 at Cork on Saturday. Up The Style recorded 28.04 for the shorter trip in the Fennelly Memorial. Lads Panther did 29.53 in an Irish Derby Trialstake.

At Newbridge, Glenview Tom clocked the fastest sprint of the year. Like the three fastest hounds over the four bend course, the pup is a son of the notable young sire, Grangeview Ten.

At Drumbo, Robbies Topaz produced the fastest 335 run of the year while on the tough Galway cirtcuit, Guappa Chico became the first hound to break 30.00 for the 550 course this year.

The oldest line of form is of course the Produce Stakes win from Sheila Spillane’s 20-1 shot Burgess Supreme. On the supporting card Cryptopunk clocked the first sub-16.00 run in two years (15.96).

Last but not least – an apology. Having covered the Treaty Cup at Limerick, it was totally remiss of us to overlook the final where Cree Jo Jo took one spot off the 350 yard track record.
