Although Towcester are still awaiting to discover whether they have secured the right to stage the 2017 English Derby, they look odds-on to land the Trainers Championship meeting on January 31.
It appears to be a two-way battle between Towcester and Central Park though one insider for the latter suggested “there are issues between Roger (Cearns – promoter) and some of the GTA committee”. In addition, at least two of the top six trainers, Charlie Lister and Liz McNair, would be unlikely to take part at the Kent venue.
