So how did the handlers fare in their tipping prowess for Saturday’s Gain Trainers Championship meeting?

On Thursday we asked the handlers to pick their best three chances. The fact that Angela Harrison ended up with three winners on the night inevitably gave her the edge in the tipping stakes.

Her first and third selection, Droopys Expert and Droopys Verve both won, Droopys Live didn’t. Droopys Trapper was her other winner.

Kevin Hutton had two winners, Chicago Fire and Lost One Dare. Neither were among his selections. Though at 7-1 and 12-1 respectively, they clearly slipped under most punters’ radars too.

Last minute sub John Mullins was always going to be up against it with a string double digit SPs. His best hope, sprinter Swift Biscuit, finished fourth, which was as good as any.

Patrick Janssens only had the one winner, Seaglass Celine, though at 6-1, she wasn’t among his three fancies.

Phil Simmonds went for Grays Cup Winner as his leading fancy. He was beaten, though Phil’s NB Ridgedale Max did the business at 5-1.

Finally, Mark Wallis made Antigua Fire his NAP and the dog duly obliged at 8-11f.

None of the ‘crafty tenner’ selections did the business though the second place for Phil Simmonds’ Raceway Fly (8-1) was the best call.

Patrick and John both tipped Angela to finish top trainer.

So how about Saturday’s card when the trainers were asked to tip each other’s dogs?

Here is how that went:

Bitch’s race – Seaglass Celine 6-1 – No winners

Puppy race – Chicago Fire 7-1 – No winners

480 – Droopys Trapper 7-4f – Tipped by Kevin

Sprint – Lost One Dare 12-1 – No winners

Stayers A – Ridgedale Max 5-1 – Tipped by Angela and Patrick

Stayers B – Antigua Fire 8-11f – Tipped by Angela and Patrick

Standard A – Droopys Verve 1-1f– Tipped by Patrick, John, Phil and Mark

Standard N – Droopys Expert 4-6f – Tipped by Patrick, John and Mark

Finally – a huge thanks to all the trainers for being such good sports and making time to participate. Hopefully we can do something similar in the future- Ed
