Northern Puppy Derby Semi Final Night At Newcastle

Phil Barlow’s Velvet Violet got her career up and running at the third time of asking with a super first round heat win.  Nicely drawn against the rail Violet can make all with Diane Henry’s strong running Clona Curly looking set to follow her home and claim the second spot in next week’s final.

Maxine Locke’s Droopys Eunice looks absolutely plotted up against the rail and with anything like a start should be able to make the bend cleanly and set about her business off the front by the time they head onto the back straight.  We’ve yet to see the best of Ballymac Lineout but he’s a talented sort who should benefit from the extra space he’s likely to be afforded after the withdrawal off colour of Greenwell Ovett.  Eunice to land the spoils but Lineout can claim the second qualifying spot in next weeks final.

There was plenty to like about the performance of Kevin Hutton’s Coppice Ella last week and she looks booked to secure herself a place in next weeks final.  From a value perspective however Coppice Sapphire owned similarly to Ella by ‘Coppice Man’ Tony Brealey but trained locally here at Newcastle by Jimmy Fenwick looks particularly well drawn against the rail and can get the job done.
