Brogan Tee Bone completed a remarkable return from serious injury at Belle Vue on Saturday when he produced a storming run to take the final of the BAPP Group of Companies Scurry.
Beaten to the punch at the start of the race by Cloncuny Ardera, he caught that rival as they completed the turn into the straight and then drove for the line, taking the verdict by a length and threequarters in 15.27 for the 260 metres.
Mark Keightley, husband of trainer Hayley, said: “The dog was coming back from a broken shoulder he suffered at Sittingbourne in March and I’ve got to congratulate Hayley and the syndicate headed by Paul Lawrence on the patience that they’ve shown with him.
“It was great to see Paul and Dave Lawrence make the trip up to Manchester to support Hayley and it was a great night for all concerned. We will now look to the National Sprint at Nottingham for him.”
There was joy, too, for Ted Soppitt as his Calzaghe Davy, another that has been on the sidelines for seven months, came back with a victory in the Pat McCombe Memorial Invitation, the dog leading from trap to line and finishing a length and a quarter clear of Iceman Frank in 27.83 for the 470 metres.
Blakefield Jack again showed that he is top dog over this track’s 590 metres as he extended his winning run over course and distance to six in the midi, scoring by nine and a quarter lengths from Oneco Melissa in 35.19 on this occasion.
