Barrie Draper was left with a dilemma after trials at Doncaster on Friday night.
Two of his Pinpoint Yorkshire St Leger hopefuls, Glenpadden Ace and Droopys Gonza, failed to get their prep runs when Glenpadden Ace found a gap between the traps and the running rail, dived through it and got loose in the centre of the track. The hare was stopped in the interests of safety.
The Sheffield trainer said: “That’s dog racing for you… Glenpadden Ace is fine this morning, but I am not sure that it would be worth risking going back there in case the same thing happens again and we will have to take another look at what we are going to do.”
Last year’s winner Millwards Teddy impressed in his 483-metre trial, Dean Childs’ dog going round in 29.43, while Tynbar Hondo went best of those that trialled over the full Leger 661-metre trip with a 42.30 clock.
