Swindon have switched to a policy of ‘filling irrespective’ in an attempt to kick-start their open race fixtures.

Joint racing manager Dave Stow said: “We arranged them for week after week and they didn’t fill.

“Aware that some of the trainers might simply have got out of the habit of coming here, we put another set on a couple of weeks ago and filled them with our own runners.

“That might have done the trick as we had five fill this week, We’ll just have to wait and see.”

With prize money at least on par with most other provincial tracks, (£200 to winner, £50) others, the Wiltshire venue have four more scheduled for next Wednesday: 480m, 480m (maiden), 509m, 685m.

Entries close at noon on Saturday.
