The idea that only tightly graded BAGS cards can be competitive has been dispelled once again in a Henlow final.

Next Sunday’s Dean Naughton Memorial Supersprint Final looks as competitive as any race produced by racing manager working to instruction, without an odious ‘7-2 the field’ look about it.

The three qualifiers were won within a length of each other with Tony Ward’s 3-1 shot Lughill Bee (Droopys Scolari-Bellmore Lady, Nov 13) marginally the quickest with a 16.80, one length win over Uluru Candy (9-5). John Mullins’ My Mate Max (Kinloch Brae-Swift Sandy, Sep 13) turned over the fastest dog over the 277m course this year, Mays Teejay, by three and a bit lengths in 16.81. While Bresmed winner Daytime Flyer (Ocean Cash-Ballaghboy Cool, May 13) justified 5-4 favouritism with a 16.88, length and a quarter win over Blackrose Payet (6-1).
