More Storms and Hoffmans from Erin?

Swift Erin, well on track to finish top open race brood for a second consecutive year, will have one more litter before being retired into the house as a pet with breeder Ian Greaves.

The daughter of Kinloch Brae and Great Madam has 46 open winners this year from litters to Makeshift (Be Up From, Domino Storm, My Real Mutley, Swift Kidman, You Never Listen), Godsend (Ribble Atom, Swift Leonard) and Paradise Madison (Swift Glow, Swift Paradise). She finished with 61 open wins in 2015 including Greyhound of the Year Swift Hoffman.

Greaves said: “We will have one more litter out of Erin by taking her back to Makeshift. She will then come into the house with me. I like to have the broods who have thrown a category one winner in the house, and also, like her dam and grand dam, she is completely un-homeable. They are just way too keen.”

Among the litters currently occupying the paddocks around Greaves’ Monasterevin base are some early pups by Swift Hoffman out of Zaras Fantasy (Evanta Fantasy, Swift Merlot, Ribble Aon etc),currently joint second on the dam’s table.

Greaves said: “I like them a lot. Although they are all different colours, they all have their dad’s shape and are really good lookers. I also have my first litter of Superior Products, who are lovely looking greyhounds.”

So overall how is business?

Greave says: “There is still great demand for the good dogs, probably stronger than ever. The problem is with the BAGS dogs, trainers want to buy them but can’t afford them. I also see problems growing with the age of people who handle the dogs. The average age would be over 55, probably a long way past.”
