NOTTINGHAM ADVERTSprinter of the Year Scolari Sound (Droopys Scolari-Turn It Up, Mar 14) made a flawless return to racing at Nottingham last night. Dave Pruhs’ black won for the eleventh time in his last thirteen races with a 17.53 win – three spots off his best ever run over course and distance.

Scolari’s kennelmate Laughing Gravy (T6) narrowly failed to complete the double in the second semi following a moderate break. Jane White’s 8-1 chance Velvet Speedy (Tullymurry Act-Jumeirah Joyce, Aug 13) dictated the pace and then held on by a head in 17.96.

There was a thrilling finish to the £500 Maiden Final with Millroad Henry (T6) pushing the white jacketed Oscarsupreme (Head Bound-Milliesupreme, Mat 13) to within a neck of defeat and Richard Devenish’s black had dominated throughtout. The British bred held on by a neck in 28.83 (+10) for the 480 metres.

In the 500 metre final, Tyrur Dicky once again proved an expensive selection for favourite backers. The Charlie Lister trained black had every chance when leading at the first bend. But he was outpaced by Carol Weatherall’s generously priced (5-1) Holden Lee (Kinloch Brae-Cornamaddy Tiny, May 13) who didn’t break stride when taking a generous line around the first two bends to lead off the second. He then held on by three quarters of a length in 30.20 (+10).

There was some fascinating racing in the heats of the Bookmakers Maiden Standard where Pat Rosney’s Swift Paradise (4-7f) was looking to redeem himself in his third race. The big striding half brother to Greyhound of the Year Swift Hoffman almost overcame early trouble and a scenic route around the failed to catch Laurence Tuffin’s 30.62 (+10) winner Heros Wink (Kinloch Brae-Herself, Mar 14).

Pam Dolby’s Mays Fiddlefadle (Godsend-Mays Maska, Apr 14), contesting her sixth race, was clinical in the other semi with a powerful finish to beat Best Judgment in a respectable 30.18.
