Locally trained Shockwave Onyx added the fastest semi final to his quickest heat win in the BGBF British Bred Stakes but Racing Manager Peter Robinson thinks he may struggle in next Monday’s £10,000 decider at Nottingham.

He said: “He ran very well and has trap three again in the final, but I would be more concerned that four will move across him from the traps. Having five railers and a middle isn’t ideal but thankfully Only You looks the ‘most middle’ of the railers so I am pleased she drew five.

“Given the draw, I think Acomb Winston looks well set on the outside. He missed his break in the semi finals, was stopped everywhere he went but ran on really well. We know he likes the track and has the ability so I think he is the one they all have to beat.”

The four bend final will be supported by a home bred sprint final worth £1,500 to the winner and Robinson is delighted with the calibre of both fields.

He said: “You would hope to get some decent quality for a £10,000 final, but the sprint is good too. I’m not being the bravest man in the world by suggesting Signet Goofy is the one they have to beat.”

The grader was also prepared to poke fun at himself as he viewed the sprint line-up.

He said: “Looking at the final, I’m beginning to look like a very generous man in grading Florence in D2 for her debut. I might need to make that line of form disappear.”
