A breakthrough in the acceptance of greyhounds for sales/auctions will means a planned April pre-Derby sale will go ahead at Sheffield after all writes Floyd Amphlett.
Recent adoption of EU transportation regulations had threatened the future of the valuable source of runners with sales promoter Brian Harrison fearing future events would be impossible due to a requirement for the dogs to remain on the stadium premises for 48 hours after the auction.
However Harrison announced today: “I have just been told that we can go ahead if we email DEFRA with the name and address of the new owner who must agree to keep the dog on their premises for the next 48 hours.
“It is a huge breakthrough, brought about entirely by the hard work of Duncan Gibson at the GBGB.”
Harrison also pledges an extra incentive for would-be vendors and purchasers at the April 19 sale.
The fastest dog on the day – provided it breaks 29.20 for the 500 metres – will receive a free entry to the William Hill Greyhound Derby plus travelling expenses.
