A nice touch from the Romford Racing Office in sending out the following press release in honour of retiring trainer Maggie Lucas:

Our local trainer Margaret “Maggie” Lucas retires this weekend. She has been at the track for nearly 30 years.

Maggie Lucas took out her trainer’s licence back in 1984. Previously running at Hackney Wick prior to joining Romford in 1992.

Maggie Lucas caused one of the biggest shocks in greyhound racing prior to joining Romford with her greyhound Mossy Moore winning at the now closed Hackney Wick Stadium at odds of 150/1 in the heats of the Guineas by a short head.

Other significant victories include Cromarty Vi winning the Rose Bowl early in her career.

Stoney Lady won thirteen 750m open races on the bounce in 2002.

More recently Maggie won our most recent trainers championship last year (2020). With help from the likes of Moorstown Victor, Vancouver Var and Fortunate Ocean to name a few.

She has been a fantastic person to work with and know for so many years and we she will be sorely missed by all of us at Romford.

We wish her all the best in her retirement and will be saying goodbye in true Romford fashion on Saturday evening at the track

A lady of great integrity and professionalism, Maggie will be a big loss to the industry. She deserves a great retirement – Ed
