Lenson Rocky (Droopys Scolari-Momentinnewyork, Jun 14) looks certain to start favourite for next week’s Juvenile Classic Final at Tralee.
The Len Ponder owned, Pat Buckley trained black went to traps as a 4-5f and dominated the race as an odds-on chance should. First into his stride, he crossed the sectional in 3.03 (previous 3.06, 3.02) and was never seriously challenged. Although Turree Bolt closed the gap along the backstraight, the leader was never in danger and he held on for a comfortable three length win in 28.35. Tommys Lord was third.
Graham Holland, who had seen his 5-2 second favourite Skywalker Manner (ex Nice Manner) eliminated in the first semi would experience a similar fate with the similarly priced Silverhill Pat in the second. At traprise, Double Oh Seven was the 6-4f, but after early crowding it was Terry Corden’s Tynwald Baz (3.14 sect) who seized the initiative from Escapism (3.12). Holland’s runner who had anticipated the break, and got it badly wrong, had flown into third place but his stamina remains in question. Owen McKenna’s Escapism (Paradise Madison-Killacolla Glory,Apr 14) hit the front at the third and eventually beat Tynwald Baz by a couple in 28.64. Mobile Tracker ran on for third.
Rocky should be unfazed by the two jacket in next Friday’s final, having gone unbeaten in the red, black and stripes.
