1969 Warfield Kennels, labelled “the best schooling track in the South”, is wound up after losing a High Court battle over noise. The owners of the kennel at Warfield in Berkshire are faced with costs and compensation amounting to over £4,500 (index linked to roughly £61,000).

1955 Skewen regular John Griffiths receives a six month prison sentence after forcing his way into the home of the track manager to complain about grading. When the manager eventually returned home accompanied by a policeman, both were assaulted by Griffiths.

2013 Former Romford handler Tony Dennis dies aged 81. During a career in which he trained at Rayleigh, Rochester, Ramsgate and privately, the shrewd Dennis handled a string of top stars including Kilcaskin Kern, Sundridge Bet U and Sados Choice. He was regularly implicated as being involved in the famed Rochester coup, something he always denied.

1957 Jack Tidbury, owner of the Bull Garage in Rainham paid a record price for a hurdler when purchasing Vintners Cup for £819 – equivalent of £21,860 – for the three time track record holder.
