It was often said that the greatest hurdler of all time, Sherrys Prince, was quicker over the jumps than he was on the flat. The new Cork 525 yard record holder Comeout Russell is almost blessed with the same qualities.

The Pat Kiely trained black clocked 28.59 on Saturday, which compares very favourably with a  best of 28.46 on the flat. Former Stow racing manager Tony Smith describes the two-race jumping novice as “one of the most economical jumpers I have ever seen.”

Breeding buffs will also be interested by the new star. He is a son of Westmead Hawk out of Lady Deise, which makes him a litter brother to Vanfrankie and Holdem Hawk, and a half brother to Vanrooney.
