Local runners dominated the semi-finals of the Golden Crest over 450 metres at Poole on Saturday.
The opening qualifier went to June Harvey’s Aimnfire, who saw off the challenge of ante-post favourite Roxholme Ted.
The son of Central City, a 5-2 shot, was soon clear and went on to beat the 8-13 favourite by a head in a fastest 26.66sec.
Costa made it three wins from his last four starts in the second qualifier. David Merchant’s runner was soon in front and rode a first bend bump before holding off the strong late challenge of Glenpadden Bolt by a short head in 26.70sec.
