Nottingham duly landed their home leg of the Easter Regions BAGS/SIS Track Championship first leg though the size of the winning margin was just as important.
The make-up of each race sees the hosts field two runners compared to one for each of their rivals so although victory is highly likely, it is important that they take full advantage of a home draw. Nottingham finished the meeting on 80 points, almost double the points of closest rival Peterborough, and the highest winning score of the four regions.
Nottingham took four of the heats, though they were hardly ‘penalty kicks’: Hollygate Best (3-1 youngsters), Swift Lucian (3-1 sprint) and Beckjay Scooby (3-1 dogs) and Alma Radar (6-4f). The other three tracks posted one runner apiece: Doncaster (Groveshill Turbo 6-1 pups), Henlow (Fernhall Rose 9-4jf bitches) and Yarmouth (Badabing 2-1f elite standard)
The final points tally: 76 Nottingham, 40 Peterborough, 32 Henlow, 31 Doncaster, 17 Yarmouth
Three of the racing offices were also spot on with their banker selections on the site yesterday with Jason Smith (Nottingham) nominating Alma Radar, Paul Mellor (Henlow) tipping up Fernhall Rose and Ben Mannall opting for Badabing. The other two runners: Rahyvira Castle (Lisa Samson, Peterborough) and Droopys Cyanide (Mick Smith, Doncaster) both finished second.
