I am hoping that Droopys Folly does us proud in the Pinpoint Healthcare Maiden Derby tonight. She will probably start as favourite but has a lot of time to make up on her heat run,29.03 (calc) compared to Blastoff McCaws’s 28.79.
I thought she showed great determination when she was behind. She can trap better than that, her 5.00 sectional was 26 spots slower than in her trial, but she needs to get a clear run. What I really don’t want is for red to miss his break and then come shooting up on her inside and collide with her at the bend.
Whatever happens tonight, I am convinced she has the makings of a top class stayers, which is what she was really bought for.
We have three runners tonight and I would be disappointed if Newinn Champ (7.11) doesn’t go very close. I think a lot of the pup and although I would have preferred a draw nearer the fence, I think he has the ability to give them all a race.
Expresso Blue (7.43) is also one of our young hopefuls but has the toughest race of the three, in my opinion. I was very impressed with Droopys Trapeze last week and he looks the one to beat.
I was delighted with Swift Paradise’s win in the puppy final at Nottingham last night. He missed his break again but ran the first two bends really well and showed his great pace along the backstraight. He didn’t make such a mess of the last bend this time and ran on well to get up by half a length in 30.76 (-20). It was a pretty good run for a pup having the second racing of his career when you consider that the two all-aged open heats were won by Swift Fellaini in 30.49 and Salacres Pele in 30.72. Fellaini won A1 in 29.92 a few weeks ago and Pele did 30.14 two races ago.
