Onlookers can expect to see plenty of headway being made in the next fortnight at soon-to-be-reopened Oxford and Suffolk Downs (Mildenhall).

Spokesman Nathan Corden said: “Work is well underway on the kennels at Suffolk Downs. Dave Boothby reckons there is an estimated five days more work on the kennels, so next Tuesday or Wednesday, and as soon as they are complete the team will be headed down to Oxford.

“As most people were aware, the paddock was in a very poor state of repair and completely overgrown with a tree having smashed into a couple of the kennels. That has all been cleaned up with a new roof. It will all be extended and enclosed, starting next week.

“The circuit is now awaiting the hare rail which is also due next week. The surface itself is just waiting for the new sand but won’t be laid too early to avoid contamination.

“The first of five new sets of starting traps have arrived at Towcester and are being fitted this week which will mean we can introduce the new 470 distance. The other four sets are in the workshop and awaiting delivery to Oxford and Suffolk Downs.”

Greyhound Trader’s Puppy Derby Sale is due to take place at Towcester on Saturday October 9 with their Hove sale set for Sunday November 28. Nathan said: “There is huge interest from Irish breeders and rather than let anyone down we are planning to hold a sale very month in 2022.”
