02 RED MILLSSuper mum Droopys Danneel (Rumble Impact-Droopys Bubble) heads the open race dams table with 16 victories to date, or which all but two came from the same Ballymac Viv litter (Dorotas: Del Mar, Hooligan, Wildcat, Woo Hoo, Forest: Con, Natalee) who do not reach adulthood for another month.

In second and fourth places are two Ian Greaves bitches. Swift Salt (Vans Escalade-Swift Edith) has winning progeny by Godsend (Swift’s, Asbolos, Lucius and Melampe) and Kinloch Brae (Swift’s Bravo and Magnum).

In third spot is Ballymac Eugenie (Premier Fantasy-Ballymac Mir) who most be considered the ‘mother of all sprinters’ with Ela Ela Genie and Mashmad Eyebrows from a Brett Lee litter and Only One Leemac and Westway Gaga from her litter by Ace Hi Rumble.

There are a couple of interesting quirks that come from the table. The first is that although all the litters from the top five dams are all Irish bred, the two ‘Swift’ dams never raced, while Danneel, Eugenie and Mays Maska, all spent their racing careers in Britain.

Secondly, there is a shortage of ‘Droopys’ dams at the top of the table. At one stage, it was commonplace for there to be two or three Droopys among the top five broods. Although ‘Danneel’ and ‘Peaches’ were bred by Sean Dunphy, the litters they produced were not. The reason for the absence?

It is certainly not a lack of top class open racers being produced at Ballyvalican, but possibly more about the Dunphy brothers opening up their options in the last five years and selling a decent percentage of their top stars into the Irish market eg Droopys Roddick, Droopys Nidge and new staying star, Droopys Smasher.
