Hove Sunday Lunch August 2015The fastest greyhound at Hove this year looks unlikely to contest the Coral Sussex Cup.

The final set of Sussex Cup trialstakes took place at Hove on Thursday night and the £10,000 to winner event closes on Monday, and starts next Thursday.

Seamus Cahill’s Live Annie is the fastest this year over the course and distance with a 29.68 victory though she may swerve the race and go for the bitch’s event that concludes on the same night.

Cahill said: “She trialled back over the sprint and will trial over the 515 tomorrow. Depending how she goes, we may run her (in the Sussex Cup), though the greater likelihood is the bitch’s competition. The same goes for Banabane (see below). At this stage, I expect to have three entered for the big race including Ballymac Lyster who is also due to trial. “

2015 Hove champion trainer Jason Heath has a lead of 22 graded winners over closest rival Seamus Cahill, though Cahill has a commanding lead of the track’s open race table. Heath, who has the track’s biggest kennel strength has sent out 226 graded winners to date for a strike rate of 16%.

Cahill’s 36 open winners are have been amassed by 19 different runners and come to almost the same amount as his closest three rivals combined.

The kennel, and the track’s, outstanding performer has been Banabane (Droopys Scolari-Ballymac Razl, Mar 14) with 11 victories from only 23 races so far this year. She is joint leading open race winner with Digby Mia and Tadys Robin on five open wins, despite having started 2016 in A4 company.

If you had bet £10 every time Banabane had been to traps this year, you would be £385 in profit.
