The installation of two new sets of traps at Oxford should see the greater variety of racing return to both the Cowley venue and Henlow.

The new boxes were delivered by manufacturer Gavin Smith last week but were not installed for fear of disrupting the Pall Mall. But within hours of the Cat One event taking place, the new boxes were fitted and tested.

This will enable the current 450 traps to be returned to Henlow and will be used for the 550 course. An additional set are being shipped over from Towcester for the 277/692m and should be operational for sprint trials on Wednesday.

Henlow have already advertised minor opens over 277m, 460m, 550m, and 692m for Sunday August 13 when they will stage the ‘official trialstakes’ for the Betgoodwin Henlow Maiden Derby.

Oxford will also return to using the sprint/stayers distances from Friday when the first round of the 450m BGBF British Bred Oaks is also due to get underway.
