Romford will attempt to get rid of grades within grades in A1 class from the start of next month.

At present the racing office have roughly three types of A1; one capable of winning open races, one which is almost A2 and another somewhere in the middle.

The Essex track currently has eight grading categories over the 400 metre trip but from next Wednesday October 2 there will be ten and the current ‘A1’ will be split into three.

This will all mean that all other grades going down two rungs with A2 runners now being class as A4 and A8 being re-graded as A10.

Prizemoney for the ‘new’ top two grades will increase, while other grades will be unaffected.
