Ballymac Mossjoe overcame what looked an awkward draw in style when landing the Coral Sussex Cup over 515 metres at Hove on Thursday.

Barrie Draper’s runner flew out of trap four, cut King Dec off at the opening turn and went on to hold the gallant runner-up Jetstream Jack by a length and a half in 29.45sec.

Trevor Draper said afterwards: “He needed a flyer and got one and ran a great race. Once in front he was never going to get beaten.

“Owner Peter Band said: “I bought him from Liam Dowling and he was confident he would turn out to be a good dog and I can’t thank him enough.”

 

Vatican Gurkha foiled the gamble on Diego Flight in the Sign Up to Coral Connect Trophy over 515 metres.

View The Moon took the field along to the last turn but they were queuing up behind and Vatican Gurkha got first run over Diego Flight and put his head down where it mattered to eventually score by a short head in 29.82sec.

Winning trainer Pat Rosney said afterwards: “He ran well to come from behind a decent field. I wasn’t sure he had won but he showed plenty of guts.”

Droopys Dart produced a strong running performance to land the Coral Puppy Trophy over 515 metres.

The pace was set by Droopys Yves but Droopys Dart went second on the back straight and hit the front on the run-in to score by two and a half lengths in 29.73sec.

Mim Emment, assistant trainer to Paul Young said: “He can do it both ways and he got the trip really well.” He’s likely to go for Nottingham’s Puppy Classic in August.

Borna Champ landed an eventful Coral Backs Children With Cancer UK Stayers Stakes over 695 metres.

The lead changed several times before Borna Champ came from last to first to beat Only For Life by a neck in 41.81sec.

Lee Calcott, the winning owner said: “The dog has been dropping himself out in recent races but we know he stays strongly and just got there.”

Vanayanzaman was an impressive winner of the Coral Sprint Trophy over 285 metres.

Kevin Hutton’s runner led on the run-up and saw off the challenge of local runner Who Needs Pace by a length and a half in 16.03sec.

Razldazlnewstalk was the favourite for the Download Coral from the App Store Stakes over 515 metre hurdles.

He led but jumping errors cost him dear. Kennelmate Lenson Royale took the lead down the back straight and looked set for a clear cut victory but he walked through the last flight and just held off the late challenge of Alittlelesslip by three quarters of a length in 30.55sec.

The winning trainer Ricky Holloway said afterwards: “For me he was the best novice in the country earlier this year but things didn’t go his way. The fast Romford trial told you he was back.”

Rock Cinta took advantage of a great make-up to land the Coral Ladies Trophy over 515 metres.

Bob Smith’s sole wide seeded bitch flew out of the boxes while the railers crowded up. She came home two and a half lengths clear of Jaytee India in 29.92sec.

Smith said afterwards: “Every time the bitch comes down to Hove she runs a big race so we’ll try and bring her more often.”

Roxholme Magic justified odds of 1-4 in the Follow @Coralbetting on Instragram Trophy over 930 metres setting a new track record.

She must have been ten lengths behind the leader Droopys Tamera with 300 metres to run but she just changed gear to lead off the last turn and score by almost six lengths in 56.18sec.

Mark Keightley, husband of trainer Hayley said: “She goes to Towcester for the TV Trophy, it’s not the ideal place for her but she has a favourite’s chance.”
