Locally trained and bred Monsters Ball (RazldazlGeorge-Stokette, Feb 14) took advantage of a rain soaked track to land the £500 Maidens Final over Dancaster’s tough 483m course.

In a 5-2 the field race that would have been popular with the BAGS paymasters, the race had looked at the mercy of Holycross Model (T2 3-1) or Petes Peg (T5 72), but in a race that developed into a three-runner challenge it was the the black jacketed Monsters Ball (4-1) who prevailed by half a length and a neck in 30.60 (-70).

The odds on next week’s Maiden Final over the 450m course will be considerably more widely strung given the impressive first UK victory of Charlie Lister’s pup Sidarian Padre (Vans Escalade-Drive Ahead, Aug 14).

The 28.66 Tralee winner, eliminated from the first round of the Derby, only had one pursuer throughout the event but even Clives Legacy (T5 4-7f) was beaten by just under four lengths in 27.99 (-60). The other two heats went to local 13-8f Shaneboy Mort in 28.74, and 4-6f Calzaghe Costa in 28.54 (both -60).
