Dorotas Hooligan (Ballymac Vic-Droopys Danneel, May 15) – the dog not considered good enough for the Star Sports English Derby impressively landed a £500 open decider at DONCASTER on Monday night.
Trained by Charlie Lister OBE, the black went into the 483m decider as a 4-9f and ran as his supporters expected he might. Very quick away – his 3.99 sectional was by far his best to date – the blue jacketed black was never challenged and won in 29.23 (-20) – an identical clocking to his heat win, though on worse going.
Unfortunately, Hooligan’s exploits are unlikely to give him top four bragging rights in the litter, currently disputed by Dorotas Woo Hoo and Wildcat plus Forest Con. Even the lightly raced Dorotas Del Mar has a 29.19 on his card at Donny!
The meeting also featured a FOY for Adamant Jim (Kinloch Brae-Chickaboom, Oct 14) with an impressive 41.76 run on going rated .30 slow. There was also a double for litter sisters Burnfoot Dolly and Burnfootpollyanna (Kinloch Brae-Amber Bound, Sep 14) who clocked 27.93 and 28.23 in heats of a 450m event. The pair have jointly won five of their last six races, the sole blip being when the pair met and Dolly came out in front.
Entries for opens over: 275m, 450m, 450m (pups), 483m and 661m – scheduled for next Monday (June 5) close this Friday (June 2). Tel: 01302 843710
The star of the show at Nottingham was Donation (Droopys Cain-Delightful Flyer, Jul 15) in the £400 final of a 500 metre event. With two withdrawn, Heather Dimmock’s runner was made a 4-9 chance to reverse form with Maxitout and the result was emphatic – five and a half lengths in 29.53 (.40 fast.), a new FOY.
Fearsome Phantom (Westmead Hawk-Hesley Hawaii, May 14) earned his wages at Nottingham for the third time in four weeks with a 41.65 (+50) run for the 680m – four spots off his personal best.
Dave Pruhs collected his 13th and 14th opens of the year at Colwick with a 2:3 strike with 9-4 chance Blakes Flyer (Godsend-Ballymac Razl, Apr 15) picking up a sprint in 17.83 (+10), while 6-4 chance Dark Recruit (Romeo Recruit-Borna Gem, Oct 14) was just four spots slower.
