Phil Simmonds currently leads the trainers championship!
The Romford handler picked up the first open race winner of the year at Nottingham on Monday night with an impressive performance from Newlawn Adam (Ballymac Vic-Gurrane Princess, Apr 15). The 4-7f made it five wins from his last six races with a 17.57 (+30) run for the sprint. Only three hounds went quicker in all of 2017, the talented trio of Roxholme Hat, Hiya Butt and Ballymac Sexton.
Ridgedale Max completed a double for the kennel half an hour later. Lowgate Belatrix denied Team Simmonds a hat trick when outstaying No Intention by three quarters of a length.
