How likely is your dog to win an open? If he does, how likely is he to win a second?
The answers are revealed in the following table which shows the break down of the 3,555 open race winners for this year (including dead heats).
The table, which is headed by Chopchop Hope (20 wins) followed by Droopys Perfect (17), represents the efforts of 1,519 open race winners, though more than half (792) have only won one race each – a symptom perhaps of so many ‘maidens’?
The numbers then advance in roughly linear order 2 wins-301, 3 wins-158, 4 wins-88 and so on. Only 35 runners have 10 or more open race wins – the elite 2.3%.
