Patchys Kerry fully justified her 2-5f tag with an exemplary performance in the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket Final at Crayford.
The Mark Wallis trained bitch was never in danger after rocketing clear from the traps. She went half a length inside the 380m track record at the sectional with a 22.84 run and her 90 spot advantage was only reduced to 52 (six and a half lengths) at the winning line from Diesel Flo.
The Golden Jacket victory crowned a brilliant evening for Wallis who also landed the Bussey Memorial, for the fifth consecutive year, with Swift Whirlwind.
He said: “What a night. We had four out of six at Crayford and four out of nine at Towcester. But if Kerry had been beaten, it would have been the only thing that we would have remembered. It is great to get the first Cat One of the year under our belts too.
“I thought it was an outstanding performance from a wonderful bitch. She is such a happy character in the kennel; everyone loves her. Owner Frank Taylor was always confident that the was capable of this type of performance and actually picked out the Golden Jacket on the day after the Champion Stakes win when she came into season.
“At this stage, I don’t know where we go next, though the Regency has to come into consideration depending on other factors. For example, she hasn’t been suppressed and we have to make a decision on whether to do so. Most of our better bitches have been including Domino Storm, Evanta Evita and Bridge Ruth and it didn’t affect them on the track. Obviously I will have a chat with Frank.”
Wallis’ other Crayford winners included a winning swansong for Aayamzamodel and a near four length win for the gambled Ribble Aon.
The Towcester quartet were Fivestar Calvin (6-4f), Sligo Star (4-1), Billys Bullet (4-5f) and Parkers Poison (5-2).
