Before talking about the Derby, the spotlight should first fall on the brilliantly game Grangeview Ten for his hugely impressive victory in the €20K Irish Sprint Cup Final at Dundalk. The final completed a six-timer for the Pat Guilfoyle trained, Michael Horgan owned winner.
Onto the Derby and a fastest-of-round win for Champion Stakes winner Pestana, with the second nomination going to the incredible 18 month old debutant Billys Diva for a 28.09 run for the 525 yards.
Among the graded fare, March puppy No Better Boy wasn’t quickest of the night but showed great promise on a sodden Cork track on Saturday. Lilly Lula who was 23 spots slower than the FON at Thurles, but was another successful March pup. The slightly older Too Darn Hot deserves a mention at Newbridge.
However Enniscorthy’s fastest winner of the week, Silverhill Lisa, was also the youngest at 19 months old. At the other extreme, veteran Mohane Duchess was just three spots off the fastest 525 of the week at Limerick.
Regular readers will be familiar with the name Amazing Alice and she appears on the chart again following her fourth win in five races, (1 KO).
