Irish racing is buzzing again with the first round of the Champion Stakes and Corn Cuchulainn at Shelbourne Park. There were only six spots between the three CS winners with Ballymac Cooper narrowly edging it while the four 750 winners were only separated by 17 one/hundredths of a second with Aayamza Royal winning a thrilling qualifier.
The Laughil Duke/Coolavanny Pearl litter are only just two years old and two of them won second round heats of the Produce Stakes at Clonmel. Doolin Duke clocked 28.46 but brother Newinn Session was even quicker with a 28.15 run. By any standards, that is top top class.
Meanwhile at Dundalk, John McGee’s Swanley Bale was quickest in the first round of the Irish Sprint Cup.
