Nominations for the outstanding performance of the week become a little trickier at this time of year with the tracks running slower and many of the better runners away for the winter. There are the occasional competitions which provide us with our Tralee and Youghal nominations. In other cases we go for fastest performances of the week, notable performances for less used distances, or pups coming very close to the fastest times of the week.
On the flip side, five year old winners in Ireland have always been thin on the ground and with no other obvious candidate, the Waterford nomination goes to Whitefort Ralph whose 28.99 was only 22 spots behind the fastest time of the week.
