Glenkeel (Tullymurry Act-Dynamic Trend, Oct 14) went quickest in the first round of Swindon’s Calne Racing Arc with a mixed night for the five Irish runners.

Paul Young’s Glenkeel – beaten in his first 16 races – made it an open race hat-trick with an impressive win in the opening heat. His winning time of 28.44 was the fastest over course and distance in the last nine months.

There were five Irish entries and Graham Holland’s Garryvoe Bobby (Knockglass Billy-Vickis Dream, Jun 14) was next quickest in the fourth heat with a 28.48 run. Kennelmate Riverside Oscar failed to make the cut from the second heat and Peter Cronin’s Ela Alecko was the only survivor from the third.

The draw for the second round takes place on Monday – meanwhile trainers are reminded that the 509m competition worth £1,500 to the winner closes at 11am on the same day
