We are aware of the concern around the recent outbreak in Australia of canine coronavirus within the greyhound population.

We want to reassure trainers and owners that there is currently no identified outbreak of canine enteric coronavirus in the UK. This type of virus, commonly found in dogs, is in no way related to the current Covid-19 outbreak causing respiratory illness in people.

Canine enteric coronavirus infection (CCoV) is a contagious gastrointestinal disease that can be found in dogs all around the world. This virus is specific to dogs, both wild and domestic and it is not a new disease.

As ever, to manage the risk of transmission of infectious diseases, it is important to maintain good biosecurity and hygiene practices. We would advise trainers to refer to GBGB’s website to find information about biosecurity and disease prevention and to contact the GBGB Veterinary Advice Line on 020 7822 0913 if they have any further questions.
