“We are aware of concerns regarding the retirement destination of Havana Class and an urgent investigation is currently underway to ascertain the facts. To be clear, whilst not illegal under UK law, GBGB does not condone the export of any greyhound to countries where animal welfare standards fall far below that of the UK, according to the Animal Protection Index.

“For any greyhound retiring from the sport, the burden remains on the greyhound’s last owner to make acceptable arrangements for the greyhound’s retirement in accordance with Rule 18. Should the evidence gathered suggest that the necessary checks have not taken place, we will not hesitate to take appropriate action.”
