Kinsley trainer Kevin Ferguson has always held a high opinion of his home-bred bitch Acomb Ruby and the October 2013 daughter of Kinloch Brae and Ring Ouzel is certainly living up to his expectations writes John Forbes.

She was a warm order for her A1 at the West Yorkshire circuit on Saturday and came with a storming run in the closing stages to take the prize by a short head in 27.95, second fastest time of the night for the 462 metres.

Acomb Ruby has now won her last four starts, two in A2 and the last two in top grade and with four months of her puppy status left she should continue to improve.

Mollys Johnny is more than paying his way for Newcastle trainer Stuart Ray at present.

Successful in the Gain Feeds Race of the Week at the Tyneside venue a couple of weeks ago, the June 2012 son of Droopys Scolari and Ray’s former prolific winner Blackhouse Molly followed up with a trip down the road to Pelaw Grange over the Bank Holiday weekend where he stepped up to 590 metres and landed the spoils comfortably.

Back on home sand on Saturday he was a 10-1 chance to take another of the Gain Feeds’ showpieces, but he continued in his great vein of form as he caught the leaders round the final bends and ran on to score a two and a quarter-length success in 28.62 for the 480 metres.

After Milo, who ran up a sequence of six victories for trainer Joy Andrews at Belle Vue earlier in the year, is back in a winning thread in Manchester.

The versatile September 2011 son of Westmead Hawk and Little Impulse won the track’s Main Event, a 470-metre hurdle contest last week and he successfully switched back to the level when contesting Saturday’s Main Event, an S1 over 590 metres, where he swooped late to take the verdict by a short head in 36.05.
