Tuesday’s inaugural televised ‘four final’ Crayford meeting will hopefully be repeated next year – with the possibility of a ‘Cat 1’ Gold Collar.

Ladbrokes Head of Stadia Richard Brankley said: “We know that from a financial point of view, the night is going to cost a bomb, but it is a great opportunity to showcase the stadium.

“There were a number of significant pluses. First, it was great to see four local businesses with owner connections at the stadium, sponsoring races.

“We were also well supported by the top kennels: Mark Wallis, Paul Young, Kevin Hutton, John Mullins, Jim Reynolds and so on, which is always gratifying.

“Thirdly, we all know that Crayford can be a challenging circuit, but what we can offer is a great variety of racing, and that certainly shone through.

“I hope we can do it again next year, but hopefully earlier in the year. We are already considering the possibility of stepping up the status of the Gold Collar to Category One.”
