Shocks were the order of the day in the Jay & Kay Coach Tours Kent St Leger over 714 metres at Crayford on Saturday.

They started in the first heat which saw track record holder Stardom eliminated.

Heather Dimmock’s bitch, a 4-6 shot, trapped moderately and was fifth going into the first turn where she was virtually taken off the track by Kevin Boon’s kennelmates Headford Maurice and Leemount Venus.

Meanwhile another Boon runner Sheldan, a 7-1 chance, was left a clear second to the pace-making Roxholme Dolly and picked up the leader around the last couple of bends to score by four lengths in 44.98sec.

Ante-post favourite Roxholme Poppy was a hot 1-2 chance to land the second eliminator but she missed her break and found plenty of trouble to exit the competition.

Busters Bullet led for six bends and then Beechgrove Bell took up the running, only to be mugged right on the line by 10-1 shot Brigadier Bullet in a blanket finish.

Brigadier Bullet won by a short head with a similar distance back to Affleck Bolt in third.

A bit of normality returned for the final heat when Antigua Fire justified 4-5 favouritism.

It didn’t look promising for a long time when first Burgess Honey and then Millroad Susie led but looking after himself out wide, Mark Wallis’s runner came around the outside at the final turn to deny Millroad Susie by just over a length in 45.28sec.
