The defeat of Huarache Scotty in the heats of the Cearns Memorial was probably the biggest shock at Central Park on Wednesday night.

The Kent venue were staging the qualifiers for the reserve SKY meeting next Tuesday and Kevin Hutton’s Scotty (2-5f), who has returned impressively from a career threatening injury was expected to mop up the third qualifier. But the honours went to Frank Gray’s 10-1 shot Makeit Rennie in a fastest of night 30.09 with Scotty (EP,Bmp1,Chl&BBmp3) beaten three quarters of a length. The other two qualifiers went to Jimbobjoe (30.13 nk Oakfield Caesar) and Brinkleys Kind (30.23 3 1/2 Toolatetosell).

There were upsets too in the heats of the Silver Salver where the fastest qualifier went to 10-1 shot Patricia’s Power who beat 6-4f Newinn Shadow by a neck in 27.14 for the 450m. The other two qualifiers went to  My Mate Max (27.22 3/4 Clondoty Alex) and Corrin Mall (27.30 4 1/2 Razldazl Brian).

Ricky Holloway trained runners dominated the two Springbok trialstakes with Sober Call (2-7f) particularly impressive with a 29.17 victory over the hurdle course. Kennelmate Razldazl Valiant (4-5f) landed the other qualifier in 29.75.

There was also a fine UK debut for Lenson Rambo in the heats of the maiden competition. The former Irish star ‘Hidden Friend’, who had broken 29.00 (calc) in all his qualifying trials, got home by four lengths in 28.82.
