Romford Generic july 2015Should the headline be the six-timer? The defeat of the 2-5f chance shortly due to contest or the fact that Romford’s fastest time of the year was recorded in the first round of the Coral Golden Sprint by a dog with 114 races on his card? In all cases the trail leads back to champion trainer Mark Wallis.

The star of Friday night’s Romford card was undoubtedly Calco Flyer (Blonde Snapper-Blonde Fern, Sep 12) whose 23.80 win in the heats of the feature event was his seventh and fastest victory (from 15 races) over the 400m course. In a comparatively average Golden Sprint competition, Flyer was a length quicker than kennelmate Clondoty Alex and must have a significant chance of finally bagging a ‘Cat One’ having previously made five different finals.

The Wallis sextet was made up by four -benders Brynoffa Jasmin (7-2) in the maiden (24.19), Chubbys Oak (5-2), who came in as a reserve (24.28), plus stayer Saffrons Tina (11-8f) in the fastest of the night (35.21), and eight-bender Stellas Veekayee (4-5f) in 47.82.

The big turnover though was Rubys Rascal (2-5f) who finished a four length second to 46.97 Slick Sebastian after checking at the seventh bend in another 750, just two weeks before his planned match with Roxholme Magic.
