Droopys Buick made it seven wins from ten races in the semi-finals of the Caffreys Puppy Classic over 500 metres at Nottingham on Monday.

Jimmy Wright’s runner, the 6-4 favourite, blasted clear from the traps and turned the first bend in front of kennelmate Droopys Vodka.

Seamus Cahill’s Crossfield Cesar closed down the back straight to challenge for second but the winner had flown and he went on to beat Crossfield Cesar by two and a half lengths in a fast 29.69sec.

Charlie Lister unleashed a good prospect in the shape of Coolavanny Pat, the winner of the second eliminator.

The son of Premier Fantasy barged early leader Camp Joker out of the way at the opening turn and went on to beat him by seven and a half lengths in 29.81sec.

The opening qualifier was marred by first bend trouble involving the favourite Johns Present. The bunching left Fred The Shred clear and he held the late surge of Pumpstreet Niall by half a length in 30.21sec.

Draw for next Monday’s final:

1 Camp Joker

2 Coolavanny Pat

3 Pumpstreet Niall

4 Fred The Shred

5 Droopys Buick

6 Crossfield Cesar (w)

TV Trophy Finalist Alma Prince scored an easy victory in the Betfred Super Stayers Trophy over 730 metres. Alec Stones’s runner led off the penultimate turn to score a five and a half length victory over Loop The Loop in 45.02sec.

Charlie Lister’s Be Up Front went quickest in trials before racing over 305 metres clocking 17.74sec.

Last year’s Puppy Classic finalist Be Up Front recorded 17.76sec.
