There won’t be too many occasions when we would even consider overlooking a Category One winner, particularly when we are dealing with a winning favourite, but Tenpin pushed Roxholme Biscuit all the way with an impressive 28.66 (-10) open race win on the flat at Central Park (when nothing else broke 29.10).

The St Leger is rapidly approaching and Aaymaza Royale would have put herself among the leading fancies with a fastest-of-night 43.46 run last Thursday. Staying with the open race scene, last Friday Bockos Jon Jo clocked the joint fastest Romford 400 since the switching of the racing circuit.

If we were to have a ‘great old servants’ category, Crayford veteran Snowdon Jimmy would qualify, but purely on merit, courtesy of a 23.24 run in A1. You could apply the label to Lemon Noah with a fastest of week 28.57 in A1 at Newcastle.

Doncaster only had two meetings within the last week, but Letter Cain’s B2 win makes him a worthy choice. At Harlow, an eight length, sub 26.00 run for Killuran Seanie also made him an easy selection.

There isn’t much of Savana Tequila at 24kg, but she clocked the third fastest 550 of the year at Henlow with a 33.31 run.

Comparatively speaking, for a male, Doorus Jet isn’t much bigger at 29kg, but remains very hard to beat at Hove where he has won his last three A1 races.

Staying over 500m, A1 winner Havana Potter takes over the Nottingham nomination from Deerjet Sydney while the seasoned campaigner Coney Boom Boom made it three from his last four with a 29.11 at Sheffield, one spot quicker than his closest rival. It was a tight one too at Sunderland where Witton Logician, was just a couple of spots quicker than that popular veteran, Beaming Mix Up.

Glenvale Amy and Glenvale Gav have been regular Kinsley nominations; they are now joined by their younger half sister and 27.59 winner Corona Lady.

It wouldn’t be often that 28.64 would be the fastest time of the week at Monmore, but on going rated .40 slow, it was a decent enough run for Lemon Wesley. While Yarmouth’s only sub 28.00 (462) winner this week, Roxys Teddy, picked himself.

The Sunday winners included Pelaw Grange’s quickest top heat winner Over The Miles, Swindon open race winner Droopys Proven and Derek Law’s Towcester A2 winner Droopys Respect.
