A 33.48 ‘sighter’ trial by Mossvale Ace (Ace Hi Rumble-Blue Bee, Aug 13) provided the launch-pad for a fastest-of-night performance in the Bunny Bookmakers Gold Cup.
Derek Knight’s Produce Stakes finalist led up (8.88) from Holdem Lee (8.91) and eventually extended that lead to six and a bit in 33.27 (-15). Final Ace grabbed second spot on the line.
Jet Stream Sound (Premier Fantasy-Swift Ash, Nov 12) enjoyed a tremendous buckle with Swift Whirlwind (6-4jf) in the night’s most competitive qualifier. The track record holder (32.87) was led up by Swift Whirlwind (8.70) but, always close (8.77), he took up the running at halfway and won by three in 33.49 (-15). Third favourite and prolific Henlow winner Urban Road finished last.
Kevin Hutton completed a double when 4-7f Jet Stream Style (Droopys Vieri-Droopys Twirl, Nov 12) completed a four-timer in the following heat. Third at the sectional behind Kilara Lightning and Mays Stardust, he powered through around the last two bends to win by four in 33.59 (-20).
Yarmouth’s fastest four-bender Droopys Scion (Yeah Man-Droopys Hilda, Nov 13) bounced back from a recent narrow defeat by Forest Sara to win her heat by just under two lengths on a deteriorating track in 33.71 (-30). The winner was returned at 4-5f
Sara was made an odds on chance to win the last heat but didn’t survive a first bend bump in a race won by Turbo Daniel (Broadacres Turbo-Expert Flash, Jul 12). The race was headed for four bends by Savana Razzle until Daniel (3-1) and Soviet Kenny eased past. The winning time was 33.97 (-30).
The first two in the betting, Blonde Razor and Westmead Becky, were both eliminated in a fifth heat won by 5-1 chance Blackrosecrocket (Kinloch Brae-Ballymac Vicky, Jun 13). Eric Cantillon’s Henlow Cesarewitch winner was never headed when winning in 33.86 (-30). Lowgate Onyx and stayer Gordons Alive were beaten three quarters and a length.
